Portrait of Vera Repina

Posted on December 19, 2022December 21, 2022

The artist is Repin

Repina Vera Alekseevna (nee Shevtsova; 1854–1918) – the wife of the artist.

The portrait was written in the last year of the almost three -year stay of Repin in Paris. In this image, it was difficult to find out a shy girl captured in a St. Petersburg apartment seven years ago. She is already a mother of two children (in the fall of 1874, a daughter Nadezhda was born). Mosque, look, fashion accessories of the portrait indicate that we have a confident woman in front of us. Restrained color scheme with tonal transitions of gray (dress, hat, background), a black scarf with a brooch, shading the oval face of a white collar – all this emphasizes the nobility of the created female image.
