The artist is clover

By the beginning of the 1880s, the time of creating the work "Forest", The artist found his original face and his own language. The romantic and harsh northern nature of Clover was a real discovery for the Russian landscape of the second half of the XIX century. He wrote: "I write all sorts of landscapes, but I really know the solar sunset at its various moments and clumsy trees curved in bad weather and winds". The artist creates a portrait of the area with his mood and character, which is characterized by some theatricality, dramatization of space, love for mysterious night lighting, the use of light and color effects. Despite the almost photographic realism, its landscapes often depict places invented, not existing in reality. They are characterized by the fragmentation and asymmetry of the composition, due to which the effect of involvement in impenetrable forest thickets, a dark and mysterious forest is created in many respects.
