In the 1870s, the artist, beloved by the artist, was enriched by the drama, which enhancing drama, the motive of the steel shore, causing a feeling of imminent death of a ship, uncontrollably approaching rocks, and daredevils trying to escape on funny boats.

Among such famous canvases – "Rainbow" (1873, GTG), "Shipwreck" (1876, Theodosian art gallery. And. To. Aivazovsky) – the work of the Russian Museum is distinguished by its high picturesque qualities and sizes, a scope of the depicted space. It is inspired by the realities of Crimean nature – the appearance of Cape Ayya in the vicinity of Balaklava, on the southern coast of Crimea. The canvas was one of the first exhibits of the Russian Museum and in its early inventory books is listed under No. 1. The picture of the same name 1879 is stored in the Dagestan Museum of Fine Arts in Makhachkala.
