The artist is Repin
It was in 1877 that Repin creates one of the first sketches of the procession with a miraculous icon, combining in one action the motive of the movement of the crowd, genre scene and the psychological characteristics of individual characters.
“I am surprisingly calm since I finally found an“ idea ”for myself; The plot for the picture, which I will do now for three years, is very worth. But I won’t tell anyone until I finish the picture, I will write it in Moscow … ”(and. E. Repin – c. AT. Stasov. March 29, 1877).
