Appeal of Prince Vladimir to Christianity

According to the “Tale of Bygone Years”, Grand Duke Vladimir, choosing religion, invited representatives of various religions to Kyiv and arranged “Test Ver”. Islam from the Volga Bulgaria, Judaism from Khazars, Latin from Rome were rejected for various reasons and preference was given to Byzantine Christianity. Traditionally, the event is customary to attribute to 988.

Zabolotsky depicted Grand Duke Vladimir as sitting on the throne and listening to ambassadors from Byzantium, which explain the features and advantages of Orthodoxy. (E. Sh.)
