Works f.AND. Vasiliev is delighted with lightness, lyricalness, special transparency. Perhaps the artist’s favorite plot was nature after a thunderstorm or in front of it, as in this work. The landscape feels a special state of drama, when everything froze in anticipation of a thunderstorm. In deserted stories, the artist creates a purely humane, inhabited, understandable world. And the path in it, as the employee of the Russian Museum notes Irina Verkhovskaya, "This is a convincing and unconditional evidence of human activity". The picturesque manner in the picture is characterized by sonorous accents of color spots, the dynamism of a free smear. The painting “Before a thunderstorm” became a kind of creative outcome of the writer’s journey through the Volga.
