The artist is Pryanishnikov

In the second half of the 1870s, Pryanishnikov took part in the creation of the paintings of the Cathedral of Christ the Savior in Moscow, in which many important events of Russian history were reflected. One of these milestones was the laying in the Kremlin of the First Stone Assumption Cathedral, committed by Prince Moscow Ivan Kalita and Metropolitan of Kyiv and All Rus’ Peter on August 4, 1326. In this event, the symbolic foundation of the power of Moscow Rus’ was seen. As legend says, St. Peter (the second half of the 13th century – 1326), bequeathed to bury himself in the wall of the temple, predicted the elevation of Moscow and the family of Ivan Kalita.

On the sketch of Pryanishnikov, the prince, surrounded by coats and boyars, takes the blessing of the saint with his right hand, and with his left – holds the shoulder blade used in masonry. Boyar at this time brings to him bricks. Similar plots in the decoration of the Cathedral of Christ the Savior were given special significance. Being on a par with images of events from the Holy Scriptures, they emphasized the role of divine fishing in the fate of Russia. (P. To.)
