Artist – Schwartz

Vyacheslav Schwartz, who was a gearbox of the historical genre in Russian painting, depicted Alexei Mikhailovich during a game of chess with one of the boyars. It was the king’s favorite entertainment in the circle of people close to him with whom he loved to retire in the evening. The game was so popular at the court that in the arms chamber special masters who were engaged in the manufacture and repair of chess were in the service.
